Play may now commence at Doutta Galla

The Doutta Galla Tennis Club Committee has been consulting with the Moonee Valley City Council and Tennis Victoria and Members may now play Tennis at the Club now that restrictions due to the Coronavirus have lifted.

The Club is now available for use by Members based on the following conditions:

  • Access to the main room of the Club House will not be available. Access is available to the Toilets through the rear door of the Club. Your regular club key will give you access.
  • Members may only play after they have booked a court. Members may not play unless they have booked a court. You can book a court through the Doutta Galla Web Site at
  • After you Book a Court a questionnaire will be sent to you asking for you to provide the Names of all Players, Members and Non-Members, that will be playing with you at the Club. It is a condition of play that this is completed and sent back to the Committee. The purpose of this information is for Contact Tracing in the event of a confirmed case.
  • The Committee has placed hand sanitiser at the entrance to the Club. Hand sanitiser should be used before and after using the keypad on the gate.
  • Coaching will commence this week. Coaching times are blocked out in the Book a Court system. The Club Coach, Anthony Guccione, will be providing advice to all coaching students directly.
  • The First Aid Kit and the Defibrillator have been moved to the Toilets and may be used in case of emergencies.
  • Members are encouraged to minimise contact with other players where possible. There is a limit of four players per court at any one time. Social distancing is to be observed.

The Committee are in discussion with each of the Competition Associations about the resumption of play. Once a decision has been made this will be communicated to Members through our Web Site, Email Newsletter and Facebook group.

The Committee asks that all members follow these rules so that play may continue as we return to normal. We thank all Members for the patience and cooperation during this time.

Club Closure to remain until further notice

Today the Victorian Government announced a relaxation of restrictions implemented to stop the spread of the Coronavirus.

Despite this advice, please note that the Club will remain closed until further advice is received from the Moonee Valley City Council and Tennis Victoria.

The Committee is expecting to receive confirmation shortly and we will contact our Members via our Web Site, Facebook Group and Email Newsletter when the Club will reopen again for use by Members and the details of any additional rules and conditions that may remain in place.

Update on the Closure of the Club

The Committee wishes to provide an update to Members on the Closure of the Club.

By the orders of the Victorian Government and the Moonee Valley City Council the Committee have been asked to close the Club until further notice. We have lowered the nets and have re-arranged the furniture for additional security. The Book a Court System is disabled.

We ask that no Members attempt to access the Club while it is closed.

We are hoping to re-open the Club as soon as the restrictions are lifted.

We wish all of our Members well during the isolation measures and hope everyone supports the social distancing restrictions. The more everyone complies with these restrictions the sooner all of this will be over.

We will all certainly all be keen for a game when this is all over.

If you have any questions or need to access the Club you are welcome to contact the Committee.

Club Closed due to Coronavirus Social Distancing Measures

The Moonee Valley City Council has requested that all local sports clubs close until further notice. This is a part of the Moonee Valley City Council, the Victorian Government and the the Australian Government’s Social Distancing Measures implemented to stop the spread of the Coronavirus.

Therefore the Doutta Galla Tennis Club will be closed until at least the 13th of April 2020.

Members are not permitted to access the Club for social play until this restriction is lifted.

The Committee apologises for any inconvenience this may cause to Members.

If you have any questions you are welcome to contact the Committee via our Contact page.

Due to the current health situation in Australia with regard to the Covid-19 outbreak the Committee of the N.S.L.T.A. has decided to suspend all matches in the current season until further notice commencing immediately.

The N.S.L.T.A. will monitor the situation weekly and will alert clubs as soon as Matches can resume.

The NSJTA have issued the following update:

In order to provide a small degree of certainty in these very uncertain times, based on the current available advice, we have decided to cancel all matches until the end of April. This means rounds 7, 8 and 9 will not be played.

The Committee will meet again towards the end of April to consider whether it is safe and viable for the competition to resume.

Coronavirus and Tennis Competition Updates

By now everyone is aware of the Covid-19 virus.

Over the past few days, there has been plenty of media coverage and there
has been a lot of movement by the Federal /State governments with changes
to how we go about our daily lives.

As part of this it is expected or assumed that somehow our usual activities at Doutta Galla TC will also be affected.

The Committee feels strongly about the welfare of our club and all its members and that is the main priority.

Tennis Australia (TA) and Tennis Victoria (TV) have both issued statements over the weekend.

Currently as of the 15/3/2020 – local competition has made the following statements:

  • NSTA – Saturday Afternoon competition – is suspended
  • NSJTA – Junior competition – was cancelled Saturday and the association is reviewing its activities this week.
  • NSNTA – night competition – is suspended.
  • NSLTA – unsure currently.

Social play at the Club is not restricted, however if you feel unwell you should stay away from the club and seek advice.

Coaching for now will continue as normal – with strict guidelines around best health practices.

Anyone who is feeling unwell should not go to coaching and should stay away from coaching for 2 weeks. Anthony will arrange credits for lessons missed.

The Club will take awareness measures to the best of our abilities – these include:

  • Wash hands often with soap and running water, for at least 20 seconds.
  • Dry with paper towel or hand dryer.
  • Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow.
  • Stay at home if you feel sick.
  • If you take medication make sure you have enough.
  • Phone your doctor or the hotline – 1800 675 398 – if you need medical attention. They will tell you what to do.
  • Continue healthy habits: exercise, drink water, get plenty of sleep.
  • Wearing a face mask is not necessary if you are well.
  • Buy an alcohol-based hand sanitiser with over 60 per cent alcohol

Further information can be found on the Victorian Government’s Web Site.

The most important message i have for everyone is – if we all do the right things at the club we will help to limit any spread of potential illness – so lets all do our bit! if you see something that needs to be cleaned, take 30 seconds to help out.

We will continue to monitor this situation.

In the event that the club is affected through the impact of the virus whether that’s internally or externally with competition, we will ensure that we work to communicate as clearly as we can in terms of any disruptions that may arise.

Aaron Sharpe
President Doutta Galla TC
