Saturday Afternoon Champions

Our only Saturday Afternoon B Reserve 1 team has won the NSTA Premiership on the weekend. The mixed team consisting of Annette Mann, Tracey Maney, Sophie McCann, Karen Relf, Tim Benton, Michael Mann, Trevor Peters and Aaron Sharpe defeated the team from St Monica’s. Throughout the season, the team battled gale force winds nearly every weekend to finish on top of the ladder and after defeating Avondale Heights in the Semi Final, advanced to the Grand Final. Congratulations to all team members and everyone is looking forward to next season. Entries are now open and we are actively seeking players to play in an expanded competition where we aim to field two teams. If you would like to play, please sign up in the club house or reply to this email.

Pennant Finals Update

Our club’s first Pennant team in many years has been defeated in the Grade finals of Grade 8 Pennant by Rosamond. The team consisting of Liam Benton, Tim Benton, Jason Bishop, Jason Jacobi, Warren Peters, Aaron Sharpe and Walter Wagner had an excellent season finishing on top of the Ladder and winning the Minor Premiership, gaining a home final and a pennant for their efforts. The team took on Delahey in the Section final to narrowly defeat them in what was a hard fight from our singles players and an excellent display from our doubles combinations. The team faltered in the Grade finals, being thoroughly outclassed by Rosamond. But congratulations are in order for an excellent season and everyone looks forward to the next season and the Club Championships.

Annual General Meeting Update

Last night the club held its Annual General Meeting with many topics discussed and updates on the club’s current situation. The current Committee was re-elected in its entirety with President Aaron Sharpe, Vice-President Michael Mann, Treasurer Kathryn Glass and Secretary Annette Mann leading the club through the next financial year. The major topic of the night was what projects the club can undertake with the Moonee Valley Council’s Allocated Funds to the club. The following list contains an early list of what the club will hope to achieve in order of priority:

  1. Repair of Light Posts on Court Two which are currently leaning due to problems with their bases or the poles themselves.
  2. Purchase of new Baggers for Courts Two and Three.
  3. Renovation of the Club’s Male and Female Bathrooms. Installation of new toilet suites, basins, tapware and shower facilities as well as new tiling and painting as required.
  4. Landscaping work to be done at the rear of the club. Includes planting of new drought resistant plants as well as paving as well as the installation of a Water Tank with the possibility of a 5 Star Pump system.
  5. Installation of a new floor covering throughout the club house. Tiles, Carpet, Lino or new Floorboards are all a possiblity and will be investigated.
  6. A Cover over the outside decking with either a Polycarbonate or Solid roof.
  7. Other Items including the possibility of a Split System Air Conditioner / Heater or a propper outdoor  setting for the decking.

Comments and opinions on the above list are always welcome.

Doutta Galla receives a Grant from Moonee Valley Council

The committee is pleased to announce that due to some very hard work from the President, Aaron Sharpe, the Moonee Valley City Council has allocated significant funds in their 2009/10 budget to the Doutta Galla Tennis Club. These funds will go towards further developing our little club.

Although it is not certain what we will spend the generous amount of money on yet, you can be sure this money will play a significant role in drastically improving the club. Members are invited to reply to this email with suggestions to possible projects the club will undertake.

The Committee would like to thank Aaron for his continuous hard work for the club over the last good part of a decade. Without his help, this contribution from the Council and many other projects around the club would be only a dream.

We would also like to thank the Moonee Valley City Council for their continued support.
