NSNTA Autumn 2014 Grand Final Results

Congratulations to the Club’s B Grade 1 Ladies team who recently won their Grand Final. The Team, consisting of Ashely Mann, Vicki Cohen, Jan Fielding and Karen Relf who played on the night and Annette Mann, Renee McCallum and Annette Plummer who played throughout the season defeated Keilor at Buckley Park 30 games to 22.

The match started off evenly, with Doutta Galla winning the first set 6-2,  and losing the second set 3-6. The third and fourth sets were similar, with Doutta Galla having a great third set winning it 6-1 but losing the forth 3-6. The Team then held on to win the last two sets 6-2 and 6-5.

The Committee congratulates the entire Team and thanks all Players for a great season.

The next Season starts in early August and the selection committee will be submitting teams very soon.

Annual General Meeting on June 15th 2014

The Club’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday the 15th of June at 7:30pm. All Members are welcome to attend.

The Club’s Committee for the 2014 / 2015 year will be elected as well as any upcoming Issues or Projects within the Club will be detailed.

If any Members wish to raise any items for the AGM please attend the meeting or send the Club an Email.

NSNTA and NSTA Autumn 2014 Semi Finals Update

Two of the Club’s Ladies Night Teams played in Semi Finals last Tuesday night with one of the two moving on to the Grand Final this Tuesday night.  The Club’s Saturday Afternoon Open Singles / Doubles A Grade Team also played in a Semi Final recently and were unfortunately defeated as well.

The B Grade 1 Ladies Team defeated Taylor’s Lakes quite convincingly 35 to 9. Ashely Mann, Vicki Cohen, Jan Fielding and Karen Relf played on the night and the Team will play Keilor at Buckley Park this Tuesday.

Unfortunately the C Special 1 Ladies Team were defeated by Merlynston by two games, 24 to 26. Sue Duras, Marion Wensor, Claire Mugavin and Maree Robertson played on the night and interestingly Doutta Galla didn’t play Merlynston during the season due to a forfeit and a washout.

The A Grade Saturday Afternoon Team, consisting of Warren Peters, Ben White and Michael Mann, were defeated by Coburg by 20 games who were too strong on the day.

The Committee wishes to thank all finalists for their efforts and wishes the B Grade 1 team luck for their Grand Final.

NSNTA Spring 2014 Entries Now Open

Entries for the NSNTA Sprint 2014 Season are now open. To register for next Season, which commences in early August, please write your name on the sign up sheet in the clubhouse or send the Club an Email.

Please remember that unless you notify the club of your intention to play next season you will not be placed in a team.

Entries close on Friday the 6th of June.

NSNTA Autumn 2014 Finals Fixture out now

The Finals Fixture is now available for the NSNTA’s Autumn 2014 Season and Doutta Galla has only two Ladies teams in the finals which play on Tuesday night:

Ladies

B Grade 1, who finished third on the ladder, play Taylor’s Lakes at Tullamarine

C Special 1, who finished first on the ladder, play Merlynston at Hillside.

Commiserations to all other teams, with special mention to the Ladies B Reserve 2 team which finished to Sunbury fifth by one percent. Thanks to all players for playing this season.

 

Club Championships 2014 Entries Close Soon

Entries for the 2014 Club Championships Close this Sunday the 26th of January, so please be quick.

Entries can be submitted by writing your name on the entry sheet in the Club House or sending the Club an Email.

The Club Championships are a great event for Members of all ages and skill levels. The following Events will be held:

  • Mens Singles
  • Ladies Singles
  • Boys Singles
  • Girls Singles
  • Mens Graded Doubles
  • Ladies Graded Doubles
  • Mixed Graded Doubles

All Members are encouraged to enter, especially Juniors who are welcome to enter Seniors Events to show the Seniors how Tennis is played these days. The Doubles Events are graded to ensure a tight match.

New Club Secretary

Dear Members,

I would like to officially inform all Members that Tim Benton has recently been appointed as the secretary of the Doutta Galla Tennis Club.

As a Committee we encourage our Members to become part of Committee and be involved in the running of the Club, new and fresh faces are always welcome in joining the Committee. Late last year we sort expressions of interest for the role of Secretary which was vacated by Annette and Michael Mann who had jointly been undertaking the role over a good period of time.

As we had no interest Tim Benton who has played various roles on Committee over a number of years has put his hand up!

Saturday Afternoon Grand Final Update

The Club’s Mens Singles / Doubles A Reserve Team won their Grand Final recently, defeating Royal Park at Royal Park. Michael Mann and Warren Peters played both the Singles and Doubles and despite moderate heat had a great day.

Congratulations to the Team and all who played Saturday Afternoon Tennis this season. With this Grand Final win both of the Club’s Teams won their Grand Finals which is an excellent result for the Club.
