Club Championships Complete

The Club Championships were (mostly) completed on Sunday, with only two finals remaining to be played. Congratulations to all the winners and a great days tennis was played by all.

Club Championships Grand Finals this Sunday

The Doutta Galla Club Championships Grand Finals are due to be played this Sunday from 11am. The Committee welcomes all to come down and watch a great day of Tennis. Good luck to all competitors

NSNTA Premiers – Autumn 2011

Congratulations to the club’s C Special 3 Mens team who won their Grand Final on Thursday Night. The team, consisting of Simon Philpot, John Bevan, Clinton Shimmin and James Foster defeater Merlynston 32 games to 21. The team won every set throughout the night, with the last set being called off due to lights failing at  Essendon. However, the match was well beyond doubt by then. All players performed well all season and the win was well deserved.

Well done to the entire team from the Committee and the entire club.

NSNTA Finals Week 2 Update

The first week of the NSNTA Autumn 2011 Finals series is complete, with the Club’s Mens C Special 3 Team winning their semi final.

The team, consisting of Simon Philpot, John Bevan, Clinton Shimmin and James Foster defeated Maribyrnong 29 games to 27. After a slow start losing the first two sets, the team finished strongly, winning three of the next four games. They play Merlynston at Essendon next Thursday.

Unfortunately, the B Special 1 Mens team were defeated by Buckley Park 32 games to 25. Despite only winning one set for the night, the team played very well against high quality opposition.

Good luck to the C Special 3 team for next week.

NSNTA Finals Update

There are only two Doutta Galla teams playing in the NSNTA finals series for the Autumn 2011 Season, both Mens teams.

The Mens B Special 1 team will play the top of the ladder Buckley Park at Strathmore on Thursday Night.

The Mens C Special 3 team, who finished third on the ladder, will play Maribyrnong Park as Sydenham on Thursday Night as well.

Commiserations to teams who did not make finals this year and good luck to the above Mens Teams.

NSNTA Grand Final Wins

Congratulations to our two Mens teams who won both their Grand Finals last Thursday.

Our Mens C Grade 3 Team, consisting of Phillip McLennan, David Cornell, Simon Philpot and Mick Krummins as well as Maurice Wu, James Wu and Nick Whitlock defeated Deer Park 28 games to 21 at Essendon.

B Grade 1 Grand Final Winning TeamThe Mens B Grade 1 Team, consisting of Aleks Nawrocki, Tim Benton, Kieran Benton and Trevor Peters as well as Russell Bedggood, Liam Benton, Michael Benton, Terry Benton and Rob Temple defeated Buckley Park 36 games to 10 at Westmeadows. The team flew out of the blocks to have an early lead after the first two sets and continued their form through the next few, dominating despite a great effort by Buckley Park. The team was 14 games up going into the last two sets and they were not played as they were dead rubbers. Congratulations to the entire team and to all who came and supported the team on the night.

NSNTA Finals Update and Ladies Premiership Win

The second week of the NSNTA Finals Series is now complete with our Ladies B Reserve 2 team winning the Grand Final on Tuesday night and our Mens B Grade 1 and C Grade 3 teams into the Grand Final next week.

Our Ladies team, consisting of Kathy Glass, Maureen Hardwick, Carolyn Glass and Kathryn Glass defeated Strathmore 33 games to 22 at West Brunswick. Congratulations to the entire team for an excellent season and winning their second Grand Final in a row.

Our Mens B Grade 1 team defeated Tullamarine at Avondale Heights by 7 games after the match was even going into the last two sets, the team won both tense last sets to win the match. They will play Buckley Park at Westmeadows in the Grand Final next week.

The Mens C Grade 3 team defeated Deer Park at Keilor Park by 10 games. After close sets all night, the team had a strong final two sets to win the match, with the Grand Final to be played against another Deer Park team at Essendon.

NSNTA Finals Week Two Update

The first week of the NSNTA finals are somewhat complete, with some of the matches being complete and others being totally washed out.

Our Ladies B Reserve 2 team defeated Royal Park in their Semi Final 35 to 22, with the Grand Final to be played against Strathmore at West Brunswick on Tuesday night.

The Mens C Special 2 were unfortunately defeated by Sunbury in their Semi Final. Our Mens B Grade 1 and C Grade 3 teams were both washed out, with their Semi Finals being played this Thursday.

NSNTA Finals Draws Out Now

As the Spring NSNTA season draws to a close, the draws for the finals are now released. We have four teams playing in the finals next week:

  • Ladies B Reserve 2 playing Royal Park at Hadfield.
  • Mens B Grade 1 playing Tullamarine at Avondale Heights.
  • Mens C Special 4 playing Sunbury at Oak Park.
  • Mens C Grade 3 playing Deer Park at Keilor Park.

Commiserations to all those who did not make the finals and good luck for all our teams next week.

    Finals Champions

    Out of the five Doutta Galla NSNTA teams that played in grand finals this week, three were victorious. On Tuesday, our B Reserve 1 Ladies brought home the pennant defeating Essendon while on Wednesday our A Reserve Mixed combined team with St Peters defeated Avondale Heights by 10 games. Our B Grade 1 Mens team defeated Sunbury by 5 points while our B Special 1 and B Grade 3 lost by slimilar amounts. Congratulations to all our winners and commiserations all others, everyone tried their best and represented the club well.
