NSTA Premiership Win

Congratulations to our NSTA (Saturday) B Reserve 1 Mixed team for their Grand Final win on Saturday. Doutta Galla defeated Avondale Heights by 13 games at Avondale Heights, however the victory was soured by the injury in the last set to a member of the Avondale team. Sophie McCann, Karen Relf, Will Egan and Tim Benton played on the day with Tracey Maney, James Foster and David Cornell lending their support. After two tight first sets, the team powered through to claim the rest of the match. Well done to all involved.

NSNTA Premiers

Congratulations to our Ladies C Special 1 team who has won their grand final last Tuesday, defeating Strathmore at Green Gully. Maureen Hardwick, Carolyn Glass, Kathy Glass, Kathryn Glass and Nicole Stewart spent a good 45 minutes moping up the courts due to heavy rain fall during the day before securing the win. Their devotion to playing on the night should be commended, as almost all grades washed out on the night.

Junior A Special Champions

The combined Doutta Galla / Hadfield A Special Junior team has defeated Taylor’s Lakes to win their third straight Grand Final. It was a tight match with Doutta Galla / Hadfield winning 49 games to 44. The Club congratulates all our players for their excellent performance and effort throughout the season, and we especially congratulate Jim Brennan for all his tireless managerial work over the past few years.

Saturday Afternoon Champions

Our only Saturday Afternoon B Reserve 1 team has won the NSTA Premiership on the weekend. The mixed team consisting of Annette Mann, Tracey Maney, Sophie McCann, Karen Relf, Tim Benton, Michael Mann, Trevor Peters and Aaron Sharpe defeated the team from St Monica’s. Throughout the season, the team battled gale force winds nearly every weekend to finish on top of the ladder and after defeating Avondale Heights in the Semi Final, advanced to the Grand Final. Congratulations to all team members and everyone is looking forward to next season. Entries are now open and we are actively seeking players to play in an expanded competition where we aim to field two teams. If you would like to play, please sign up in the club house or reply to this email.

Pennant Finals Update

Our club’s first Pennant team in many years has been defeated in the Grade finals of Grade 8 Pennant by Rosamond. The team consisting of Liam Benton, Tim Benton, Jason Bishop, Jason Jacobi, Warren Peters, Aaron Sharpe and Walter Wagner had an excellent season finishing on top of the Ladder and winning the Minor Premiership, gaining a home final and a pennant for their efforts. The team took on Delahey in the Section final to narrowly defeat them in what was a hard fight from our singles players and an excellent display from our doubles combinations. The team faltered in the Grade finals, being thoroughly outclassed by Rosamond. But congratulations are in order for an excellent season and everyone looks forward to the next season and the Club Championships.

Night Time Champions

Night Time Champions

Congratulations to our champion Men’s B Grade 4 and the Junior A Grade 3 teams on their premiership wins in the last two weeks.

Night ChampionsThe Men’s site had a dramatic and thrilling victory over Keilor East T.C. on November 30th. The team, consisting of Russell Bedggood, Terry Benton, Michael Benton, Tim Benton, Liam Benton, Anthony Lieu & Kieran Benton, scraped into fourth position and knocked off first in the semi final. The match started off at West Brunswick, but after the first two sets, the match was moved down the road to Royal Park due to faulty court lights. After a few hard fought sets, Doutta Galla prevailed and won the final by about 12 games. Celebrations are still continuing……..

Junior PremiersThe Junior side, consisting of Kavindu Gamage, James Reid, Drew Gilpin and Kieran Benton defeated St John Bosco’s by 9 games at Moomba Park T.C. on the 7th of December. After demoralising every team throughout the year, St John Bosco’s gave the boys a scare with some very close matches, however Doutta Galla prevailed and the game was won in the end. It is unfortunate that the team will no longer be together next season for various reasons, as they cannot complete the “premiership hat-trick” of 3 grand final wins in a row, having won the past two flags after two massive seasons.
