Summary from the Annual General Meeting

Dear Members,

There are 2 important matters that have come from the Club’s recent AGM held at Doutta Galla.

It is with regret that Warren Peters has resigned from the committee of Doutta Galla TC. Having been an important member of the club’s committee for around 15 years Warren has come to find that much of his time these days is taken up with him and his wife Skye looking after their 2  gorgeous daughters Shannyn and Ashley.

Wazz has in his time on committee been treasurer for 2 years, and Vice president for a good 5 years as well.  He has also been a major player in the running of the club championships over a number of years. He has always been of great support to the committee members and has always been willing to help where needed – the 1%’s ! He will continue to help out on selection committee and will always be part of the family at DGTC. Much appreciated.

During the recent AGM the committee unanimously decided to increase membership fees by $10 over all membership categories for 2012/2013.  This will be detailed further on the website in coming weeks. The decision mainly comes from the fact we are heading into a time where the committee’s main focus is on the redevelopment of the courts in coming years.  While the courts have had some significant maintenance on them this year, that has come at a major cost to the club and the focus now must move to ensuring we are taking every step we can to replace the courts in the coming 5-10 years. This will obviously take some hard saving and financial management by the club and we feel that we are taking a responsible course of action to make sure we are ticking all the boxes – as set out in the club’s business plan that was adopted at last year’s AGM. The increase is not a significant one and we hope that members will understand.  We still feel that our membership categories are still very much at an acceptable level compared to other clubs in the area.

If anyone has any queries regarding this matter do not hesitate to contact myself.

Regards

Aaron Sharpe

NSNTA First Week Finals Update

The NSNTA Semi Finals are now complete, with Doutta Galla’s two Mens teams winning their matches and the two Ladies teams unfortunately being defeated on the night.

The Ladies B Reserve 2 team consisting of Kathy Glass, Maureen Hardwick, Kathryn Glass and Dianne Linforth were defeated by Buckley Park 21 games to 33.

The Ladies C Special 1 team (who were unfortunately left off the previous update, our apologies ladies) consisting of Sue Duras, Maree Robertson, Virginia Glassford and Marion Wendsor were defeated by Greenvale 25 games to 30.

The Mens B Special 2 team consisting of Walter Wagner, Jason Jacobi, Warren Peters and Tim Benton defeated Sunbury 35 games to 23. Their Grand Final will be played next Thursday against Greenvale at Buckley Park.

The Mens B Grade 1 team consisting of Simon Philpot, Dave Shaw, Russell Bedggood and Rob Temple defeated Gladstone Park 31 games to 25. Their Grand Final will be played next Thursday against Craigieburn at Hadfield.

Commiserations to our two ladies teams and congratulations to our two Mens teams. Thanks to all teams who played throughout the year and we wish our Grand Final teams luck for this week.

NSNTA Finals Schedule

The NSNTA Autumn 2012 Finals Series is set to begin next week, with the club having one Ladies team and two Mens Teams playing next week.

The B Reserve 2 Ladies team play Buckley Park (Black) at Essendon on Tuesday night, the B Special 1 Mens team play Sunbury at Sydenham and the B Grade 1 Mens team play Gladstone Park at Avondale Heights on Thursday.

The committee wishes all teams luck for the upcoming matches and commiserations to teams who did not make the finals this year. There is always next year.

Sign up for the NSNTA Spring Season

Entries are now open for teams to be entered for the NSNTA Spring Season. The season commences in August and entries close on the 20th May.

All players wishing to play must place their name on the sign up sheet in the Club House or send the Club an email. Only players that express their interest to play will be registered, do not assume that the club will re-register you just because you played this season.

Court One Works over the Easter Weekend

Court One will be unavailable from Easter Monday the 9th of April until an estimated date of Wednesday the 11th of April for resurfacing. The same work that was done to Court Two earlier in the year where all sand was removed and new sand laid is to be completed. This has been scheduled since the resurfacing of Court Two was determined a success in February. There should be plenty of courts available on these days due to minimal coaching during the school holidays as well as no Ladies Competition play on the Tuesday.

The committee asks that no members use the court until notice is given that it is ready to play. This will be conveyed by our website and eBaseline, as well as a notice in the Clubhouse.

Cleaning and taking care of the Club Rooms

Dear Members,

I just wanted to mention a small matter that I’d like ALL MEMBERS to take note of please.

Of late there has been a small consistent lack of attention given to how the club rooms at Doutta Galla are being left.

The committee is not pointing the finger at anyone, however we would like ALL MEMBERS to take note of the following please.

  • When at the club, please ensure if you have used a glass/coffee mug or anything else from the kitchen that it is washed and returned to its correct location.
  • All competition players please ensure once competition is over that as a collective everyone helps to clean up the club rooms before leaving – including dishes sweeping of floor, the locking of all gates and doors and the removal of excess rubbish to outsides bins.
  • We ask that Parents of juniors also ensure that if their children are at the club, that they ensure they are aware of putting glasses away after use or help them to do so.

It is not the Committees sole responsibility to look after the condition of the clubrooms – as members of the club it is everyone’s responsibility.

If you are at the club and you see some glasses on the sink or the recycling bin is overflowing, please take a minute – if you have it- to help out, that way everyone helps each other!

Thanks everyone – it’s a small trivial matter but with everyone’s co-operation I’m sure it won’t be an issue.

Regards,

Doutta Galla Tennis Club Committee
