Registration for NSTA and Pennant Winter Seasons

The club is looking for players interested in playing in the upcoming NSTA and Pennant seasons.

NSTA is played on Saturday afternoons across the Northern suburbs of Melbourne. Matches start at 1pm, for the mixed competition two ladies and two men play three sets each match. Teams are due in by the 31st of March.

Pennant is played on either Saturday afternoons or Sunday mornings or afternoons. Four players play each week in matches across greater Melbourne. Matches alternate each week between singles and doubles.Teams are due in by the 8th of February.

Anyone who is interested should sign up on the Notice board in the clubhouse or reply to this email with your details.

NSNTA Grand Final Wins

Congratulations to our two Mens teams who won both their Grand Finals last Thursday.

Our Mens C Grade 3 Team, consisting of Phillip McLennan, David Cornell, Simon Philpot and Mick Krummins as well as Maurice Wu, James Wu and Nick Whitlock defeated Deer Park 28 games to 21 at Essendon.

B Grade 1 Grand Final Winning TeamThe Mens B Grade 1 Team, consisting of Aleks Nawrocki, Tim Benton, Kieran Benton and Trevor Peters as well as Russell Bedggood, Liam Benton, Michael Benton, Terry Benton and Rob Temple defeated Buckley Park 36 games to 10 at Westmeadows. The team flew out of the blocks to have an early lead after the first two sets and continued their form through the next few, dominating despite a great effort by Buckley Park. The team was 14 games up going into the last two sets and they were not played as they were dead rubbers. Congratulations to the entire team and to all who came and supported the team on the night.

Christmas Party on this Saturday

The annual Doutta Galla Tennis Club Christmas Party is on this Saturday the 11th of December from 6.30pm.

A BBQ and some nibbles will be provided by the club as well as some Beer, but please BYO Wine and other drinks. It is appreciated if everyone could please bring a plate to share.

Of course, bring your tennis racquet along for a hit.

NSNTA Finals Update and Ladies Premiership Win

The second week of the NSNTA Finals Series is now complete with our Ladies B Reserve 2 team winning the Grand Final on Tuesday night and our Mens B Grade 1 and C Grade 3 teams into the Grand Final next week.

Our Ladies team, consisting of Kathy Glass, Maureen Hardwick, Carolyn Glass and Kathryn Glass defeated Strathmore 33 games to 22 at West Brunswick. Congratulations to the entire team for an excellent season and winning their second Grand Final in a row.

Our Mens B Grade 1 team defeated Tullamarine at Avondale Heights by 7 games after the match was even going into the last two sets, the team won both tense last sets to win the match. They will play Buckley Park at Westmeadows in the Grand Final next week.

The Mens C Grade 3 team defeated Deer Park at Keilor Park by 10 games. After close sets all night, the team had a strong final two sets to win the match, with the Grand Final to be played against another Deer Park team at Essendon.

NSNTA Finals Week Two Update

The first week of the NSNTA finals are somewhat complete, with some of the matches being complete and others being totally washed out.

Our Ladies B Reserve 2 team defeated Royal Park in their Semi Final 35 to 22, with the Grand Final to be played against Strathmore at West Brunswick on Tuesday night.

The Mens C Special 2 were unfortunately defeated by Sunbury in their Semi Final. Our Mens B Grade 1 and C Grade 3 teams were both washed out, with their Semi Finals being played this Thursday.

NSNTA Finals Draws Out Now

As the Spring NSNTA season draws to a close, the draws for the finals are now released. We have four teams playing in the finals next week:

  • Ladies B Reserve 2 playing Royal Park at Hadfield.
  • Mens B Grade 1 playing Tullamarine at Avondale Heights.
  • Mens C Special 4 playing Sunbury at Oak Park.
  • Mens C Grade 3 playing Deer Park at Keilor Park.

Commiserations to all those who did not make the finals and good luck for all our teams next week.

    Finals Champions

    Out of the five Doutta Galla NSNTA teams that played in grand finals this week, three were victorious. On Tuesday, our B Reserve 1 Ladies brought home the pennant defeating Essendon while on Wednesday our A Reserve Mixed combined team with St Peters defeated Avondale Heights by 10 games. Our B Grade 1 Mens team defeated Sunbury by 5 points while our B Special 1 and B Grade 3 lost by slimilar amounts. Congratulations to all our winners and commiserations all others, everyone tried their best and represented the club well.
