NSTA Premiership Win

Congratulations to our NSTA (Saturday) B Reserve 1 Mixed team for their Grand Final win on Saturday. Doutta Galla defeated Avondale Heights by 13 games at Avondale Heights, however the victory was soured by the injury in the last set to a member of the Avondale team. Sophie McCann, Karen Relf, Will Egan and Tim Benton played on the day with Tracey Maney, James Foster and David Cornell lending their support. After two tight first sets, the team powered through to claim the rest of the match. Well done to all involved.

Court Unavailability and Projects Update

Due to works being conducted on the foundations of the Club’s light poles this weekend, all three courts will be UNAVAILABLE FOR USE from the following dates – Morning of Friday the 22nd of August until the afternoon of Monday the 24th of August.

However, at this stage while juniors are scheduled to play at the Club Saturday morning other alternatives are being looked at and this Junior match may have to be moved – the relevant delegates will be in contact with members affected.

Saturday afternoon comp is also scheduled for play at the Club this Saturday afternoon but at this stage the contractors involved have advised that it may not be necessary to move this match. Again relevant delegates will be in contact with members affected.

This work is being completed with funds allocated to the Club from the Moonee Valley Council recently. The Committee thanks the Moonee Valley Council for allowing this much needed work to be completed and to all members for their cooperation over the weekend. We apologize to those who may have regular hits over the course of weekend and therefore are inconvenienced, however as we are sure everyone can appreciate given the small window of opportunity for such work.

During a recent committee meeting, it was decided that several of the club’s projects that were only made possible due to the funds from the Moonee Valley Council will begin soon. This includes the recovering of the club’s floor with Linoleum and tiles in kitchen area, landscaping work to be done at the rear of the club and the installation of a water tank and pump behind the club house. The redevelopment of the club’s bathrooms is still in the planning stages but will be commencing soon.

The club is also investing in the purchase of new baggers for the club and other projects that will be announced soon.

Club Works: A Message from the President

Hi members:
Please be aware over the next coming weeks there will be some works occurring at the club.
The next phase in the redevelopment of the clubhouse is taking place, which includes the replacement of the old tin exterior walls.
The clubhouse will then be refurbished with new (and non denting!!) weatherboards …. It is estimated this may take around a week or so to complete.
Please keep in mind there may be materials lying around the club and we ask all members to adhere to safety signs and to take care.
It is my belief that all members should be able to still utilise the clubs facilities while these works are carried out.
These works are part of the Capital Works Scheme funding the club received from MVCC last year.

Regards
Aaron Sharpe
President

NSNTA Premiers

Congratulations to our Ladies C Special 1 team who has won their grand final last Tuesday, defeating Strathmore at Green Gully. Maureen Hardwick, Carolyn Glass, Kathy Glass, Kathryn Glass and Nicole Stewart spent a good 45 minutes moping up the courts due to heavy rain fall during the day before securing the win. Their devotion to playing on the night should be commended, as almost all grades washed out on the night.

New Court Baggers

The club has recently purchased new court baggers for all courts, now every court should have a bagger for each end. The committee has decided to leave the baggers on the ground rather than hang them up as has been done in the past in an attempt to make them last longer as they don’t have to fight gravity while hanging on the fences. We acknowledge that when the courts are wet the baggers are heavy and they are a potential safety hazzard, but we have decided that this is the best way to protect our baggers.

New Outdoor Setting

The final purchase from our funds from the Moonee Valley City Council has arrived, an outdoor setting for the deck. We hope everyone enjoys being able to use the eight seats when the weather improves.
